Some of the common disorders of eye and the treatment offered by us are detailed below:

Opacification of the normal lens of eye is called cataract.

A fully mature cataract
This leads to decline in vision as light cannot enter the eye.

Treatment we offer Treatment of cataract has literally exploded with technology changing everything. The stay required now is just an hour and the patient can go home immediately. We offer the entire range of Intra Ocular Lenses to our patients. Needs vary and so will the IOL and the costliest one may not be the ideal for the patient. Through an active counseling session and audio-visual display we help the patient in determining the best option for him.

This is a potentially blinding disease where the Optic Nerve (the nerve which takes visual signals from eye to brain) is destroyed and vision is lost. In most cases this is due to increased Intra Ocular Pressure (IOP) but can happen even with normal IOP. Contrary to popular belief this usually happens without pain.

Optic Nerve Cupping in a Glaucomatous eye

The above photograph shows an optic nerve with cupping (indentation seen in centre from where blood vessels are coming out). In the end this cupping gets completed and blindness ensues.

Treatment we offer Facilities for both detection and treatment with medication or with surgery are offered by us. It is in early cases that there is lot of confusion and patients undergo lots of tests. We encourage our patients to discuss the need for treatment or otherwise in all such cases.

UVEITIS is a serious inflammation of the eye and affects the Uvea, which is responsible for supplying blood to different layers of eye. According to the part of uvea involved this may be called Iritis, Iridocyclitis, Pars Planitis, Intermediate Uveitis or Posterior Uveitis. Vasculitis is the inflammation of blood vessels.

A case of Posterior Uveitis

Treatment we offer Special facilities to diagnose and treat Uveitis are available at our centre. We provide in house Pathology, X-ray and other diagnostics required. Also, most modern treatment of this disease including Peri-ocular or Intra Vitreal injections of steroids is provided at our place. Associated conditions like Tuberculosis and Sarcoidosis are also taken care. We can proudly say that we are one of the best places for managing these condition.

Retinopathy of Prematurity

This is a condition of neonates who are born premature, are of low weight and who have received oxygen support after birth. The condition is potentially blinding and can only be managed if diagnosed on time.

Appearance of retina in a case of ROP

Treatment we offer We run a special screening program in collaboration with different hospitals and nursing homes of the city for this disease. The disease is treated with Laser or Cryo in earlier phases and RD surgery in later stages. We have the best facilities for both procedures.

Refractive Errors

The errors which lead to wearing of glasses are called refractive errors.

Treatment we offer We provide all the required treatment for these conditions. We have in house Optical Store and Contact Lens Clinic for such patients giving them best and cost effective solutions for their problems. Also we provide screening facilities esp. for Myopia (Minus Number) patients who may be at risk for Retinal Detachment and treat them with Laser or Cryopexy as an OPD procedure. We also offer Lasik Laser Surgery for patients who do not want to use either glasses or contact lenses.

Amblyopia, Lazy Eye, Squint

When a child is born it can’t see the way we do. Eyes have to learn to see well just like walking or talking. That is why, eye examination at birth, at 6 months, at 3 years and then at 5 years is a routine which must be done.

Treatment we offer Our Child Vision program run through schools is intended to do just this, i.e., to detect cases at a stage where they can be best treated. We provide Amblyopia therapy, Squint Correction Surgery and even rehabilitation programs for children who need it because of low vision.

Retinal Detachment

When the sensory retina detaches from its base it is called retinal detachment (RD). Mostly this is rhegmatogenous, i.e., due to a break in retina. Breaks can be seen as Horse Shoe Tears under Refractive Errors.

Treatment we offer Only treatment for rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment (RD) is surgery and RD surgery is our forte. It is done either through Scleral Buckling or by performing vitrectomy. We have the very best results for RD surgery at our centre and encourage our patients to get it done as early as possible for the best results and least complications. We proudly claim that we are the best destination for RD surgery.

Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD)

This is a leading cause of decline in vision in population above 65 years and is very depressing for the patient. The central part of retina called macula degenerates with age and this condition is called ARMD. This may be Dry or Wet (with tendency to bleed).

FFA of same eye

FFA of same eye

Treatment we offer Right since the diagnosis of this ailment with Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) and treatment with Drugs, Laser or Intra Vitreal Injections, we offer our patients complete care. It may be noted that a lot of these patients need Low visual rehabilitation for which we have a separate program running as it needs specially trained staff and facilities.

Central Serous Retinopathy

This is disorder of central retina usually affecting young males, 25 to 45 years of age where there is serous detachment of retina involving macula. Usually leak can be located in FFA as the picture below shows one as white spot.

Treatment we offer Right since diagnosing the disease, performing FFA, identifying the leak and lasing the spot with Green Laser, all facilities exist at our centre.

Macular Edema

This is swelling of the central retina which is called macula. It’s a serious condition and requires investigation and prompt treatment. It may occur after cataract surgery or in any inflammatory condition of the eye or even in Diabetic Eye.

Macular Edema

FFA of same eyes

Treatment we Offer It is studied with FFA and treated either with medications or with Peri-ocular or Intra Vitreal Steroid Injections.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Involvement of retina in diabetes is called Diabetic Retinopathy (DR). It affects almost every diabetic with duration of disease and is a very common cause of reduced vision and blindness. Its stages can be Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR), with or without Macular Edema (ME) or in late stages, Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR). Finally there can be either retinal Detachment or Vitreous Hemorrhage or even Neo-Vascular Glaucoma leading to blindness. It is one of the most common causes of blindness in the world today.

A case of DR with ME

Treatment we Offer Early diagnosis and treatment of DR remains the corner stone of treatment along with good diabetic control. We offer complete range of DR management at our place. FFA, Retina Lasers, Intra-vitreal injections and if needed vitrectomy (surgery) and even Low Vision Aids, all facilities are available under one roof at our centre.

Retinal Vascular Occlusions

This is a condition where the central vein (CRVO – central Retinal Vein Occlusion) or the branch vein (BRVO – Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion) of retina gets occluded resulting in decline in vision.

Treatment we Offer We direct the treatment both towards the cause, e.g., Glaucoma or Hypertension and towards the effect, i.e., the occlusion and resultant complications. The FFA, Lasers and Drugs form the part of our treatment.

Vitreous Hemorrhage

This is bleeding in the vitreous cavity of the eye and can be a result of so many diseases.

A case of VH in a young patient

Treatment we Offer Instead of rushing towards surgery, we take a mix of conventional and surgical approach. Every case is individualized and the treatment plan is sorted out to give best results to a particular patient.

Floaters/Flashes of Light

These are perception of moving opacities in the eye. They may be in the form of clouds or particles or cobwebs. Flashes of Light are perception of momentary light in the eye.

Treatment we Offer The cause of these can be innocuous to very serious and must be investigated properly. Urgent consultation must be done.
