Is he the Luckiest Patient? This is case of Intra Ocular Foreign Body. Six months back, the patient while working with chisel and hammer had an accident and an iron chip entered his eye. Now following things happened, 1. The cornea was saved as the chip entered through pars plana. 2. For the same reason even retina was saved from detachment. 3. The velocity of the chip while it traveled in air sterilized it and thus there was no infection. 4. The site of impact was close to macula and atrophy of retina and choroids at the site can be seen now (where the chip actually had an impact) but again there was no retinal break or a exit wound. 5. The patient had a Vitreous hemorrhage which has cleared now after 6 months and patient has at present a vision of 6/9P. The patient had an injury where most would lose their vision but this mans vision survived. Isnt he the luckiest patient? You vote on that! To prevent long term complications of an iron IOFB like siderosis and TRD Patient has been advised vitrectomy and IOFB removal which he is scheduled to undergo soon. Dr Kapil Paliwal
